CBM is a group of Jesus-believing, Bible-reading students.
We're committed to being a passionate movement for Jesus Christ across UWS by: » teaching His Word » evangelising the lost » nurturing one another » praying continually » training for service » being sent into all the world and » supporting the ministry because of God's grace and to His glory.
CBM is a member of AFES (the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students), a nation-wide, non-denominational student movement. As a result people from any church, or from none at all, are welcome to join with us.
So tune in and be transformed (Romans 12:2) as we discover the God of the Bible!
Expansion pack:
JESUS-BELIEVING certainly means believing in the things that Jesus said - no one ever spoke more truthfully about God's character or our condition. But more than that it means believing in Jesus. That is, recognising & receiving him for who he is - our Lord and God (John 1:12, Romans 10:9).
Even as Jesus walked the earth he remained 'God in the flesh' (John 1:14). Everything that was ever made was made through him (Colossians 1:15-20).
Once this good creation of God's turned against Him we needed someone to restore us to Him and to save us from death. Jesus became this Saviour when - having lived a perfect life of obedience & love - he died upon the cross. Thus Jesus died on our behalf and in our place - the sinless man in the place of sinners to bring us back to God (1 Peter 3:18). No wonder Christians call the day on which Jesus died 'Good Friday'!
When, on Easter Sunday, Jesus came back to life again he proved beyond a doubt that his death had achieved its goal. The Bible promises that all those who believe in Jesus will experience the same joy of eternal life with God when he returns (1 Corinthians 15:20-23).
Thus Jesus is Lord both of creation and salvation. Of course believing in him means not believing in anyone or anything else. We need to turn aside from such things and trust only in Jesus (Mark 1:15, Acts 4:12). Salvation is by 'grace alone' through 'faith alone' in 'Jesus alone', and as such we have much to celebrate but nothing to boast about. Saving faith of course always bears fruit in a life of obedience, love and good deeds (Ephesians 2:8-10).
BIBLE-READING means exactly that! We read the Bible like any other book, seeking always to understand its meaning. We read the Bible like no other book, since its author is ultimately God (2 Peter 1:20-21). As such we seek to have it inform our minds, transform our hearts and reform our actions (Romans 12:1-3).
